Johnny Racine

Overview

Racine was a US Army paratrooper from Michigan in the United States. He was deployed to Chernarus in the early stages of the outbreak, and for reasons unknown went AWOL and stayed there. Whether he was already a killer waiting for an opportunity to go out on his own, or if something happened during his deployment to make him lose faith in his mission, no one knows. What is known is that Racine’s actions in Chernarus have led to him being called a bandit, a terrorist, and a serial killer. He has made it clear that he is an enemy of anyone who wishes to recreate any new form of government.

Appearance

Racine was in the past known to wear the notorious Rangers Chernarus uniform, including a tactical helmet or green beret, a purple polka dot face mask or skull ski mask, and a purple armband.

After the Rangers dissolved, Racine often wore just whatever he could find to remain in disguise. Today he only dawns the Rangers’ colors for special occasions.

Origins

All that is known of Racine’s pre-Chernarus origins is that he was a US Army paratrooper who was deployed to Chernarus in 2017 before going AWOL and beginning his career as a bandit.

Demeanor

Racine was once described as ‘a very young man with a natural shooting ability and an air of youthful invincibility and cockiness.’  He has been known to put himself in very dangerous situations which have caught up with him a handful of times. He continues to live by the Rangers’ motto, “comply or die”.

Racine is in it for himself and makes decisions based on his own personal gain. He longs to restore the Rangers Chernarus to their former glory, but for now he continues his acts of terror and banditry as he bides his time.

Actions

After going AWOL from the army in Chernarus in 2017, Racine became a solo traveling nomad. It wasn’t until late 2018 that he was recruited to a group called Legion by their leader, Dan, who appeared to hold similar goals.

Racine quickly made a name for himself by killing many 506th members around the area of Outer Heaven. This led to the first of many bounties being put on his head. Jack Chen, leader of the Rangers Chernarus noticed Racine’s skill in combat and recruited him in January of 2019. Racine was enamored by the size and power of the group. He knew that with these kindred spirits, he could do some real damage. Racine had found his home.

Over a year or so, the Rangers’ activity dwindled and eventually stopped. Racine left Chernarus for a time, only to return in 2020, chasing rumors of Rangers living at Kaer Morhen. He was confused; the only one he recognized there was Chip. This was a new kind of Rangers created by a former member who had spent some time with Dark As Midnight. These were the ‘Rangers Reformed’, or what came to be known as Chip’s Rangers. Racine joined the group, but could never get the original group’s glory days out of his mind. He knew he was capable of a higher form of mayhem and felt that this new group was dragging the Rangers’ name through the dirt. So, Racine and a few other members decided to deliver Chip to his allies-turned-enemies in Dark As Midnight.

After Chip was executed, Racine took power with the goal of bringing back the ways of the old Rangers Chernarus. He wrote a letter to his old chief Jack Chen, asking him to come back to lead and restore the Rangers’ name. To his surprise, Jack did indeed return.

Months of renewed banditry and chaos followed, but after Jack’s second unexplained disappearance, the Rangers Chernarus officially dissolved. Despite this, Racine and some of his old allies do sometimes don the old colors and spread terror in Chernarus as Rangers to this day.

In early 2023, Racine found new allies with a group called the Exiles and became part of their leadership. That short-lived group dissolved after several members left Chernarus, and Racine turned to solo banditry again for a time.

At present, Racine keeps his identity hidden as he runs with different bandit groups and seeks his next opportunity for violent personal gain. He has come to learn that announcing himself draws a multitude of foes who want him dead, and so he considers it best that they only find out who they’re dealing with once it’s too late.

Where are they now?

Racine remains active in Chernarus to this day, although with the number of bounties on his head, he is currently doing his best to remain anonymous. He continues to gravitate towards others who would take what they want by any means necessary.
