Origins in the Wasteland

March 2014 - November 2014

DayzUnderground’s history begins on March 8th, 2014 when the community was first created. At the time, various militarized factions sprung up vying for control of areas of the map (as well as groups against this idea of land claims). Cities like Elektro, Cherno, and Zelenogorsk were constantly being held and attacked by the groups present in the area such as Anarchos, the Templar, and Chernaya Strazha. We also begin to see the first recognition for diplomacy between groups, with the Peace Summit between the Chernarus Defense League, the Fraternal Order of Chernarussian Police, and the Phoenix Order. This period ends around the time that a new mysterious group shows up on the server characterized by their public sacrifices: The Cult of Papa. Additionally, DUG moved to a private whitelisted server provided by Brian Hicks for our community.

The Black Mass Period

December 2014 - August 2015

Here we begin to see many more different types of groups being formed by the survivors on DUG; many of said groups would eventually come together to help fight the Cult of Papa. Some of the groups to form are the Well Wishers, the Bureau, and the revival of the Polana (later Pavlovo) Trade Union. After many public sacrifices, groups around South Zagoria band together to fight the Cult of Papa and are partially successful in destroying the Cult in killing Akim the Revelator. This era comes to an end with hints of the Cult’s return and continued battles being waged between bandit/”evil” groups and “good.”

Cult Holocaust and Rising Tensions

September 2015 - April 2016

During this time, diplomacy between groups is at its highest as the Cult of Papa has returned along with a spike in bandit activity across the land. This is highlighted by the facilitation and creation of political summits, community camps, trade bazaars, and councils by many different groups and survivors. However, it becomes apparent that all these groups uniting against the Cult don’t all see eye-to-eye. The Cult of Papa brings their largest force yet with Malphas, Dr. Gregor, and Bog Petrov of the earlier Cult at the helm, but are defeated in the Death Cult Holocaust where it is assumed the Cult is all but destroyed.

The Time of Splinters

May 2016 - October 2016

At this point, the Cult has been defeated, but many groups began splintering with the ever-changing allegiances and differences between leaders. These include the splintering of the Brotherhood, the Alliance of Three Fires, and the Council that was created to fight the Cult. Banditry continued and was very successful at times due to these political differences between groups; groups like the Forsaken Motorcycle Club, Dark as Midnight, and the Gilligan Gang continued to wreak havoc upon the survivors left here. Additionally, during this period the faction Duty begins their Denial Zone Operation of Tisy Military Base, which ruffles the feathers of many groups hoping to have access to the base for weaponry and supplies. This era ends with the return of the Cultist Scarlett from the earliest of Cult days and an uptick in fighting between the law-and-order group Brotherhood versus the chaotic anarchists in Black Paw.

The Time of Straws

November 2016 - June 2017

This period is most notable for the large increase in survivor groups on DUG, and the conflicts that arise as a result of the major conflict on the server: The Time of Straws. This conflict was an ongoing fight between Brotherhood and Duty versus Black Paw that started in late November and has shaped much of the political landscape between groups as a result. There was also a surprising number of survivors “rising from the dead” in human and ghost form, whether with good or bad intentions. While all of this is going on, the Cult of Papa had made a (final?) return to wage war against the groups of the land, who have been dealing with their own conflicts. These conflicts would eventually lead to the creation of political alliances between good and evil groups, and following. something unknown to the Underground: a long, drawn out civil war.

The Civil War Era

June 2017 - September 2017

The current time period is most characterized by the large conflict between the two new political alliances created by groups on the server: The Coalition ["good" aligned] and the Syndicate ["evil" aligned]. This war in DUG's history is characterized in a mostly North vs South setup, with many groups on either side laying claim to territories in the map and making raids into enemy territory in an attempt to force their enemies into submission. Meanwhile, neutral factions and groups attempt to stay out of the conflict and continue without taking a side, and the Pavlovo Trade Union proclaims a Sovereign State in Pavlovo as enemies encroach upon the town from both sides. It is generally accepted that this era ended with the Syndicate's victory over the Coalition and the Coalition collapse following, among other incidents, the botched invasion of Prison Island by their forces.

The Cold "War"

September 2017 - March 2018

Chernarus entered a period of uncertainty and significantly less violent power struggles between various different small political alliances who each are individually attempted to assert their power and dominance in the region, whilst many new parties to the region began to squabble over power. The United Nations and New Chernarus Republic, and their respective allies begin a significant fight over control of the Northwest Airfield, the Fire Keepers and Guardians retreated to their original territories and the remains of the Syndicate began to expand its territory in the south of the province. This, 'Cold War,' finally would become a hot war in early 2018 when a number of disputes emerged between the Dusty Cowboys and The 506, which would become violent and soon enough involve the likes of Black Paw, the UN, the CDF, The Guardians and The Lucky Bastards, culminating in the deaths of Abbigale Arlet from the Dusty Cowboys, and her second in command Boris Ivanov at Prison Island.

The Scouring

March 2018- August 2019

This period was most characterized by several high profile survivors being captured, chased, and used as pawns while several groups and factions vied for greater power.
