Potrait of Kajia as a Nightshade member.

Overview

"Veritas Odit Moras"

Group/Faction Affiliation: Eclipse, Odyssey, Nightshade

Status: Alive

Kajia Luz, former Keeper of Eclipse, was known among her former members as the Supreme Leader or Empress of the New World. She originally entered Eclipse after a prolonged encounter with The Arsonist, who subsequently invited her to join the organization’s effort to establish what was referred to as the New World.

Following her recruitment, Kajia advanced rapidly through the ranks of citizenship and ranks of Eclipse, ultimately attaining the position of Keeper. Unconfirmed reports suggested that she may have held an additional, undisclosed title within the organization, known only to its inner circle.

After her departure from Eclipse, Kajia helped with the redistribution of her former members across several groups operating within Chernarus. She later joined Odyssey, based in Brixton.

Appearance

Kajia demonstrates a clear preference for clothing selected for style rather than practicality. However, she consistently adapts her attire to suit her surroundings and environmental conditions. She is typically seen wearing a radar cap, shemagh, and glasses, which serve to shield her face from severe weather and maintain a degree of anonymity during travel.

Origins

Bean at The Honest Coin opening.

Before the outbreak, Kajia Luz was a psychology Ph.D. student researching idolatry, occult beliefs, devotion, rituals, and group influence. After the collapse, she met The Arsonist in Solnichny, who saved her from cannibals, treated her injuries, and brought her to Komarovo. There, she was introduced to Eclipse and Peter, an acolyte of Torchwood. Kajia quickly became a respected leader and was appointed Mayor of Komarovo. With her new friends John and Mellish, she established Journey’s End, a community camp intended to support Eclipse’s settlement efforts. As mayor, Kajia became involved in a dispute with the Dark Carnival over the mayoral position. She attempted to resolve the conflict peacefully by offering Worm a teddy bear containing a cooperation contract. The contract was later misinterpreted by Bean, who believed it described a romantic relationship between Worm and Kajia. This misunderstanding angered the Dark Carnival and temporarily caused them to withdraw from Komarovo.

Demeanor

Kajia is quiet and observant in nature. She often allows others to take the lead in conversation, using the opportunity to evaluate their intentions, demeanor, and the broader context of the discussion. Her approach to morality is nuanced - she views the concepts of good and bad as subjective and open to interpretation. Despite this philosophical flexibility, she maintains several deeply held convictions that guide her decisions and behavior.

Strong Beginnings

During her time as a citizen of Eclipse, Kajia frequently traveled alone across the country to maintain contact with friends and other community camps, such as the House of Hope.

Around this same period, Kajia met Felix, prior to his later association with EST. Their friendship fostered open communication between communities in the Southwest and the Northeast, improving the flow of information and cooperation between regions. Kajia also established regular contact with the Golden Peppers, visiting them frequently to share updates and to better understand their perspective on human behavior and interaction.

Time with Eclipse

After considerable persuasion from its’ leaders, Cain and Ryker, Kajia ultimately agreed to formally join Eclipse as a Ward. Kajia’s consistent efforts quickly distinguished her within Eclipse. She worked persistently to reshape the group’s reputation, emphasizing diplomacy, and transparency. Her involvement in maintaining and improving the community camp further strengthened Eclipse’s presence in the region.

Kajia frequently traveled alone to meet with both allies and enemies, aiming to restore or reinforce communication channels that had broken down over time. Her diplomatic skill led to her promotion to Sentinel soon after joining. Shortly after this advancement, Cain, the former leader of Eclipse, vanished, leaving behind a written note that appointed Kajia and Blaze as his successors in title.

As Keeper of Eclipse, Kajia worked to redirect the group’s focus toward the ideals of the New World, a vision centered on cooperation, reconstruction, and unity. She pursued alliances with several positive and community-oriented factions, such as the Coalition, the People of New Balota, the Overlook, and the Helping Hands. Her Wards Robert Clark and Cade Wilson worked together, proposing the creation of a shared charter to formalize their collaboration, and presented this charter with the above groups when the charter was approved by all three Keepers of Eclipse.

Wisp and Greeny are confronted by Delilah and Roscoe from HOST shortly after the Stary Yar Incident.

Kajia attended both Blackthorn Gang church services led by Father Abraham prior to the Mogilevka Massacre, viewing them as evidence that even the most troubled factions were capable of redemption. At the first church service, she met David Vane, who would go on to be a close friend and ally.

Later, she witnessed the Stary Yar Incident at the Honest Coin pub, which profoundly influenced her relationships with Wisp and Nattasha of the Coalition. In the aftermath, Kajia offered them refuge in Komarovo, providing protection against those who sought retribution based on claims of their alleged cult activity.

Internal Conflict and the Mogilevka Massacre

Kajia was informed by Cob that Eclipse members had raided Golden Peppers territory. She investigated and discovered that Ryker, one of Eclipse’s leaders, had authorized and led the raid. Ryker accepted responsibility and agreed to face the consequences, but afterward he became increasingly distant and unpredictable, worrying Kajia as she tried to keep Eclipse stable. The Mogilevka Massacre then devastated Chernarus, killing many allies and destroying much of the cooperative network Kajia had built. The death of her close friend Wisp deeply affected her, changing both her leadership style and damaging her hopes for the New World.

Mourning and Moving On

At Cooper’s memorial, Kajia met former Odyssey members Jack and Cam. Though initially suspicious of Eclipse and Kajia by extension, they accepted her invitation to visit Komarovo, where Kajia earned their trust by honestly explaining everything that had happened since she became a leader. Jack, Cam, and other former Odyssey members began visiting Komarovo, while Kajia formed close friendships with her wards Lavender Flowers, Iris Flowers, Claire, and others. Their support helped her cope with Wisp’s death and the growing instability within Eclipse. Jack offered Kajia a place in Odyssey if the group ever returned. For a time, Odyssey and the Wolves of Selene, led by Princess Runa, regrouped and lived near Journey’s End.

After growing closer to both groups, and being betrayed by her former friend, Kajia left Eclipse. Several members wanted to follow her because of their loyalty to her leadership, so she helped them find new groups before traveling north to begin a new chapter.

A Time With Odyssey

For a few months, after the end of Eclipse, Kajia would go on to live in Brixton with Odyssey during their short return. Very soon after setting up Pebbles Pub, Odyssey would regularly receive many visitors, friendly and otherwise. Before Kajia’s time, Odyssey and the Forsaken Loyalists had come to an agreement for a ceasefire. However, the Loyalists quickly began testing the limits of this agreement. After ignoring multiple requests to speak to members of Odyssey, the group decided to end the ceasefire by sending a message via the killing of Forsaken Loyalist member and Treasurer, Benjamin Smits.

During the winter, Odyssey would slowly become less active as its members went off to warmer lands. Shortly after the season ended, Odyssey would learn of Joe Frasers’ death by Dark as Midnight. Shifty became more distant in the coming weeks, and would go on to be shot by Bobs in an emotional and tense scene. Bobs came to Brixton to inform Odyssey, and members would begin to disappear soon after, retreating to other lands and going into hiding, including all of Odyssey’s remaining leadership.

Without any guidance from their leaders, Kajia and Lavender would begin to run together and begin to form a plan for a new group.

During this time, the remnants of Odyssey reached out to Greeny to reconnect. After waiting for him to arrive at a rendezvous point near Sherwood, Greeny never showed up. They would soon learn from David Vane that he and Mira, former Blackthorn Gang member, had murdered Greeny in cold blood for harming Mira.

Returning to Leadership

After months of no contact with their former leadership, and freshly agitated by the murder of Greeny, Lavender Flowers and Kajia met and discussed the possible paths laid in front of them. They agreed that even with Odyssey being gone, they couldn’t let their mission go unfinished. The agreement would go on to form a new group, Nightshade, wherein the leaders mixed their beliefs and values together to create a new union of ideals and expectations for their group members. The two brought their idea to The Peruvian, another member of Odyssey, and he decided to help the two create the group and recruit new members.

Notable Relationships

The Arsonist

The Arsonist saved Kajia in Solnichny early on in her time in Chernarus and became a key example of leadership for her. The Arsonist was her first introduction to the Light as a religion and has continued to remain an inspiration to her regarding her faith and the tests that come with it.

Worm

Worm (and by extension Tanner) was one of the first members of another group that Kajia met. Her ongoing issues and conflicts with Worm were a constant during her time with Eclipse. Worm and Kajia have had a continually tenuous relationship, with many shots and words being exchanged over the time they have known each other.

Wisp & Nattasha

Wisp and Nattasha were friends of Kajia’s from early in her time with Eclipse. As a citizen, she met each of them separately and would go on to cherish the times she was able to run into them. When they temporarily lived at Journey’s End, the three of them spent considerable time together and had many late-night discussions regarding group politics and life philosophies.

Cob & The Golden Peppers

Kajia first met the Golden Peppers right after becoming a citizen of Eclipse. She would quickly grow fond of them and visit often with stories, gifts, or just to chat. Cob would provide insight for Kajia during her time as leader and help her think of how to deal with issues she was facing.

David Vane

Dave and Kajia met at the first service held by Father Abraham. While the Merry Men were down south investigating Firefly conflicts, Dave and Kajia spent days running together and debating their beliefs. They bonded over their desire to hold onto hope regardless of looming threats from the Cult of Papa.

Greeny

Kajia looked up to Greeny from her early time as a citizen of Eclipse after visiting the House of Hope. She would go out of her way to visit and they were able to bond over Cain’s passing, with Greeny informing her of the history of her group and their former friendship from an external perspective.

Lavender Flowers

Kajia first met Lavender Flowers, and her wife, Iris Flowers, in Kamenka. She became fast friend with both women, and they supported her efforts within Eclipse as citizens and then as wards. Lavender would go on to become like a sister to Kajia, opting to follow her after a short stint in the Wolves of Selene to Odyssey, and then helping to create Nightshade.

Claire

Claire met Kajia at Journey's End in Komarovo. Kajia immediately became fond of and protective of Claire, seeing like a little sister. She would push Claire to look past her fears and grow into herself as a potential leader within Eclipse. After some time apart post-Eclipse, and both having suffered many losses, the two reunited within the ranks of Nightshade.

Where are they now?

Kajia can be found running through the lands of Chernarus with her closest allies, and hunting those they have deemed as a danger to the good people who live in the region. She runs with former members of Odyssey, Eclipse, and other groups. She can often be found chasing gunshots or observing groups and individuals from a distance to gather information.
