Overview

"May the light guide you home."

Group/Faction Affiliation: Eclipse, Odyssey

Status: Alive

Kajia Luz, former Keeper of Eclipse, was known among her former members as the Supreme Leader or Empress of the New World. She originally entered Eclipse after a prolonged encounter with The Arsonist, who subsequently invited her to join the organization’s effort to establish what was referred to as the New World.

Following her recruitment, Kajia advanced rapidly through the ranks of citizenship and ranks of Eclipse, ultimately attaining the position of Keeper. Unconfirmed reports suggested that she may have held an additional, undisclosed title within the organization, known only to its inner circle.

After her departure from Eclipse, Kajia helped with the redistribution of her former members across several groups operating within Chernarus. She later joined Odyssey, based in Brixton.

Appearance

Kajia demonstrates a clear preference for clothing selected for style rather than practicality. However, she consistently adapts her attire to suit her surroundings and environmental conditions. She is typically seen wearing a radar cap, shemagh, and glasses, which serve to shield her face from severe weather and maintain a degree of anonymity during travel.

Origins

Before the outbreak, Kajia Luz was completing a Ph.D. program in psychology, specializing in the study of idolatry and occult beliefs and behaviors. Her academic work focused on the psychological mechanisms underlying devotion, ritual, and group influence, subjects that would later become relevant to her life after the collapse of society.

During the early years of survival, Kajia lived alongside her husband, Andreás, until he was overtaken by a horde of infected while ensuring her escape. His sacrifice allowed her to survive, though it left her emotionally isolated for several months.

While traveling alone through Solnichny, Kajia encountered The Arsonist, who intervened during two separate confrontations with cannibals and subsequently cared for her injuries. After helping her recover, he organized an exfiltration on the southeastern edge of town. Together, they traveled to Komarovo, where Kajia was introduced to other members of Eclipse, including Peter, a former acolyte of Torchwood.

Demeanor

Kajia is quiet and observant in nature. She often allows others to take the lead in conversation, using the opportunity to evaluate their intentions, demeanor, and the broader context of the discussion. Her approach to morality is nuanced - she views the concepts of good and bad as subjective and open to interpretation. Despite this philosophical flexibility, she maintains several deeply held convictions that guide her decisions and behavior.

During her tenure with Eclipse, Kajia frequently acted as a stabilizing presence within the group. She participated in numerous conflicts that arose between Eclipse and rival factions, including the 506 and Dark Carnival, though she consistently preferred diplomacy over violence. Many evenings were spent working to de-escalate disputes and engage opposing groups in dialogue, reflecting her tendency to seek resolution through understanding rather than confrontation.

Actions

Leadership in Komarovo

As a citizen of Eclipse, Kajia Luz was quickly identified as a capable leader and was offered the position of Mayor of Komarovo. Her earliest companions, John and Mellish, became close confidants whom she regarded as brothers. Together, they established a community camp that would later become known as Journey’s End, serving as a foundation for Eclipse’s efforts to build a stable settlement in the region.

Soon after her appointment as Mayor, Kajia faced a diplomatic conflict with the Dark Carnival. The dispute stemmed from the title of Mayor having already been informally offered to Tanner, one of Worm’s personalities. Rather than allowing Eclipse to escalate tensions, Kajia proposed handling the matter herself. She presented Worm with a teddy bear containing a written contract that stipulated cooperation between the Dark Carnival and the community camp under construction. By accepting the bear, both parties symbolically agreed to the terms.

However, the agreement was later misunderstood - partly due to the clowns’ recently acquired literacy skills - and Bean misinterpreted the contract as a declaration of a personal relationship between Worm and Kajia. This misunderstanding angered him and resulted in a temporary withdrawal of the Dark Carnival’s presence from Komarovo.

Diplomacy and Outreach

During her time as a citizen of Eclipse, Kajia frequently traveled alone across the country to maintain contact with friends and other community camps, such as the House of Hope.

While traveling near Kamyshovo, Kajia encountered a group rumored to be cannibals who allegedly forced others to consume human flesh. Choosing to verify the claims firsthand, she spent time with the group and discovered that the accusations were unfounded. Trusting her judgment, she brought the group’s representatives, Blaze and Meek to Komarovo to introduce them to members of Eclipse.

On their way through Chernogorsk, Kajia radioed The Arsonist to inform him of their approach. Unaware of his intentions, she did not know that he and another Eclipse member, William, were positioned in Balota, prepared to interrogate the visitors. Upon arrival, Blaze and Meek were detained and questioned. Kajia intervened, explaining that the rumors had originated from a separate group that had previously occupied Kamyshovo. After hearing her account, The Arsonist delivered an extensive speech about the Light to all present. The encounter ended peacefully, and Blaze and Meek later renamed their group The Hand of Light, inspired by his message.

Around this same period, Kajia met Felix, prior to his later association with EST. Their friendship fostered open communication between communities in the Southwest and the Northeast, improving the flow of information and cooperation between regions. Kajia also established regular contact with the Golden Peppers, visiting them frequently to share updates and to better understand their perspective on human behavior and interaction.

Rise Within Eclipse

After considerable persuasion from its’ leaders, Cain and Ryker, Kajia ultimately agreed to formally join Eclipse as a Ward. Shortly following her initiation, she facilitated the recruitment of several members from the Hand of Light, including its leaders Blaze and Meek, as well as a member named Tig.

Kajia’s consistent efforts quickly distinguished her within Eclipse. She worked persistently to reshape the group’s reputation, emphasizing diplomacy, and transparency. Her involvement in maintaining and improving the community camp further strengthened Eclipse’s presence in the region.

In addition to her administrative and community work, Kajia frequently traveled alone to meet with both allies and enemies, aiming to restore or reinforce communication channels that had broken down over time. Her diplomatic skill led to her promotion to Sentinel soon after joining. Shortly after this advancement, Cain, the former leader of Eclipse, vanished, leaving behind a written note that appointed Kajia and Blaze as his successors in title.

Tenure as Keeper

As Keeper of Eclipse, Kajia worked to redirect the group’s focus toward the ideals of the New World, a vision centered on cooperation, reconstruction, and unity. She pursued alliances with several positive and community-oriented factions, such as the Coalition, the People of New Balota, the Overlook, and the Helping Hands. Her Wards Robert Clark and Cade Wilson worked together, proposing the creation of a shared charter to formalize their collaboration, and presented this charter with the above groups when the charter was approved by all three Keepers of Eclipse.

For several months, Kajia dedicated herself to building lasting relationships with groups and individuals across the region, gradually strengthening ties that she hoped would contribute to a more stable and hopeful future. Her diplomatic persistence made her a familiar figure among many settlements and organizations.

Kajia attended both Blackthorn Gang church services led by Father Abraham prior to the Mogilevka Massacre, viewing them as evidence that even the most troubled factions were capable of redemption. At the first church service, she met Big Dave, who would go on to be a close friend and ally.

Later, she witnessed the Stary Yar Incident at the Honest Coin pub, which profoundly influenced her relationships with Wisp and Nattasha of the Coalition. In the aftermath, Kajia offered them refuge in Komarovo, providing protection against those who sought retribution based on claims of their alleged cult activity.

Internal Conflict and the Mogilevka Massacre

During this period, Kajia was approached by Cob, who reported a raid conducted by members of Eclipse within their territory. They requested that those responsible face disciplinary action. Unaware that the operation had taken place, Kajia initiated an internal investigation and discovered that Ryker, one of Eclipse’s fellow leaders, had authorized and led the mission alongside several members.

Kajia informed Ryker of the Golden Peppers’ demand for accountability. Acknowledging his role, he accepted responsibility and agreed to face the consequences personally. In the aftermath, Ryker’s demeanor changed noticeably. He became distant and unpredictable, which increasingly concerned Kajia as she worked to maintain balance and stability within the group.

Soon after these internal tensions arose, the Mogilevka Massacre devastated the population of Chernarus. Many of their allies were either killed or left mourning, effectively dismantling the cooperative network Kajia had been fostering. The tragedy struck deeply on a personal level as well, as one of her closest friends, Wisp, was murdered during the event. Her loss profoundly affected Kajia, leaving a lasting mark on her leadership and her outlook on the New World she had once envisioned.

Mourning and Moving On

At Cooper’s memorial hosted by EST, Kajia met former Odyssey members Jack and Cam. Initially, both were wary of Kajia and the Eclipse members attending the service, uncertain of their intentions. However, their skepticism eased when they accepted Kajia’s invitation to visit Komarovo in the following days, accompanied by Orph from the People of New Balota.

During their visit, Jack and Cam were informed of Cain’s death by Ryker, but due to his condition, the details were largely incorrect. Kajia took this time to connect with Jack and Cam and tell them everything that had happened since she became a leader. She had gained their trust with her honesty, and they, along with other former Odyssey members, would slowly start showing up down south in Komarovo in the coming weeks.

Kajia and Jack developed a close bond during this period. He became a source of support as she continued to grieve the loss of Wisp and wrestled with the uncertainty surrounding Eclipse’s future. During one late-night discussion about the growing disagreement within her group, Jack extended an offer: if Odyssey ever returned, Kajia would have a place among them.

Odyssey and Runa, Princess of the Wolves of Selene would go on to live for a short time in the outpost near Journey’s End as they started to regroup for their eventual return.

After becoming acquainted with more members of Odyssey and the Wolves of Selene, Kajia decided to part ways with Eclipse. Upon announcing her departure, many within the group expressed a desire to follow, citing her leadership as the reason they had remained. Kajia assisted these members in finding new groups before traveling north to begin her next chapter.

Notable Relationships

The Arsonist

The Arsonist saved Kajia in Solnichny early on in her time in Chernarus and became a key example of leadership for her. The Arsonist was her first introduction to the Light as a religion.

Worm

Worm (and by extension Tanner) was one of the first members of another group that Kajia met. Her ongoing issues and conflicts with Worm were a constant during her time with Eclipse.

Ryker

Ryker was Kajia’s closest friend and leader for a time, and they mourned fellow leader Cain’s death together which brought them closer. She often turned to him for advice or key information about things that happened before her time.

Wisp & Nattasha

Wisp and Nattasha were friends of Kajia’s from early in her time with Eclipse. As a citizen, she met each of them separately and would go on to cherish the times she was able to run into them. When they temporarily lived at Journey’s End, the three of them spent considerable time together and had many late-night discussions regarding group politics and life philosophies.

Cob & The Golden Peppers

Kajia first met the Golden Peppers right after becoming a citizen of Eclipse. She would quickly grow fond of them and visit often with stories, gifts, or just to chat. Cob would provide much insight for Kajia during her time as leader and often help her think of how to deal with issues she was facing.

Big Dave

Big Dave and Kajia met at the first service held by Father Abraham. While down south investigating Firefly conflicts, Big Dave and Kajia spent days running together and debating their beliefs. They bonded over their desire to hold onto hope regardless of looming threats from the Cult of Papa.

Greeny

Kajia looked up to Greeny from her early time as a citizen of Eclipse after visiting the House of Hope. She would go out of her way to visit and they were able to bond over Cain’s passing, with Greeny informing her of the history of her group and their former friendship from an external perspective.

Jack

Jack and Kajia bonded over their desire to protect those they care about, and thanks to Odyssey’s history with Eclipse, Jack was able to give Kajia information that would change her opinion about many of her old group members and leaders. Jack was the first person Kajia ever spoke to about the loss of her first husband. The two would often sneak off together during her last weeks with Eclipse and plan for their future together. Jack would go on to become Kajia’s closest friend and partner, and would support her during more than a few looming threats and losses.

Where are they now?

Kajia can be found in Kalinovka, otherwise known as Brixton, with members of Odyssey and often visiting former members and friends from her time in Eclipse.
