A former grunt of the Forsaken Loyalists, Malcolm "Highlander" Knox would rise through the’ ranks as Enforcer, Vice President, and eventually President following the death of Joe Fraser. Known throughout South Zagoria for his calculated aggression and unwavering loyalty to the Club, Highlander became one of the defining figures in the Forsaken Loyalists' history. While his early years were marked by violence and enforcement, his tenure as President has focused on preserving the Club through diplomacy, discipline, and stability.

Appearance

Highlander is immediately recognizable by his scarred face, handlebar moustache, and distinctive green ski goggles. Throughout much of his time in Chernarus he wore a modified rider jacket adorned with various patches (most notably relating to the Cult of Papa and the NFA), paired with practical military equipment, often sporting an AK-pattern rifle. His worn baseball cap became one of his defining features, later passing it to his prospect, Alex Palmer, as a symbol of her place within the Club.

Origins

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, Malcolm Knox spent his childhood growing up in one of the city's tenement housing estates. Never quite fitting in, he developed a fascination with motorcycle clubs after regularly watching local bikers gather outside a nearby pub. Hoping to emulate them, he convinced his mother to buy him a bicycle before attaching a tin can to the rear wheel to imitate the sound of a motorcycle. His attempts to impress the bikers gradually earned their attention, leading to small errands and favors that sparked a lifelong admiration for motorcycle club culture.

Around his mid-twenties, Knox would emigrate to Los Angeles, where he joined an established motorcycle club. Years of internal conflict ultimately culminated in Knox committing the murder of his President, forcing him to flee the United States. Assisted by his longtime associate Luna and a member of the Forsaken Loyalists, August, he was later smuggled to Chernarus, where he abandoned his former identity and took on the alias of Highlander.

Shortly after arriving, August introduced Highlander to Joe Fraser, the President of the Forsaken Loyalists. Rather than immediately accepting him into the Club, Joe challenged Highlander to prove his worth by recovering the armbands of rival groups. Highlander instead negotiated his own terms, earning Joe's respect through both his initiative and confidence. The encounter marked the beginning of a partnership that would shape Highlander's entire career within the Forsaken Loyalists.

Over the months that followed, Highlander embraced the Club's culture of loyalty, discipline, and brotherhood. His previous experience within motorcycle clubs, coupled with his willingness to undertake dangerous assignments, quickly earned Joe's trust and set him on a path from prospect to Enforcer.

Demeanour

Highlander is a quiet but calculating leader who rarely raises his voice, preferring to observe a situation before acting. Upon his recruitment, he was thought to be a ticking time bomb. During his years as Enforcer he earned a reputation for being cold, intimidating, and often the first man through the door when violence became necessary. Despite this, he has consistently viewed force as a means of protecting the Club rather than an end in itself.

While outsiders often remember Highlander for his aggression, those within the Forsaken Loyalists know him as a disciplined and dependable member whose loyalty to the Club outweighs personal feelings. Upon becoming President, his temperament has shifted towards becoming noticeably calmer, focusing less on personal retaliation and more so on maintaining the Club's business, stability, and long-term future.

Actions

Rise as Enforcer

After proving himself to Joe Fraser, Highlander quickly became one of the Forsaken Loyalists' most dependable members, earning promotion to Club Enforcer. The position placed him in charge of enforcing the Club's charter, protecting its business interests, mentoring prospects, and carrying out punishments deemed necessary by the leadership. Acting as Joe's right hand, Highlander became a familiar face during diplomatic meetings while simultaneously developing a reputation as one of the Club's most feared members.

One of Highlander's defining moments came during the incident later referred to within the Club as Breaking the Code. While attempting to negotiate with the Fireflies, Highlander abandoned the Club's usual preference for business over violence and opened fire after talks collapsed, reigniting hostilities between the two groups. Although he later acknowledged the decision as the only occasion he knowingly acted against the Club's principles, the incident demonstrated both his willingness to act decisively and his belief that disrespect toward the Club could not go unanswered.

In a similar vein, the deteriorating relationship between the Forsaken Loyalists and the Merry Men soon developed into open conflict after negotiations between the two groups collapsed. As both factions hunted one another across South Zagoria, a firefight ended with the Forsaken Loyalists capturing the independent survivor Vadim, who had unknowingly become involved in the fighting. Realizing his mistake and working quickly to make amends, Vadim agreed to prove himself by infiltrating a fashion show in Dolina and abducting a member of the Merry Men.

Vadim ultimately returned with Jonah, who was escorted to a nearby hill where Highlander, Henry Steelman, and Locke were waiting. Although Jonah possessed little relevant information of value, the Forsaken Loyalists intended to send a message rather than conduct an interrogation. Highlander personally executed Jonah before his body was returned, demonstrating the consequences of opposition towards the Club. The execution quickly became a political flashpoint, prompting several survivor groups to unite against the Forsaken Loyalists and further cementing Highlander's reputation as the Club's principal Enforcer.

The renewed conflict with the Fireflies continued for months. During one encounter Highlander covertly shadowed Vadim, who had now become a prospect for the Club, while he conducted business near Pusta. When Paul of the Fireflies recognized Vadim and held him at gunpoint, Highlander immediately intervened, killing the attackers before safely extracting the prospect. The rescue reinforced Highlander's reputation for demanding absolute loyalty from those beneath him while offering the same loyalty in return, becoming one of the earliest examples of his protective approach toward newer members.

During this period Highlander also oversaw the Club's dealings with the Spades Motorcycle Club. Although initial negotiations collapsed amid mutual distrust, Highlander deliberately chose intimidation over annihilation, believing the smaller club could still prove useful. His assessment later proved correct after Alex Palmer and Alan Palmer sought assistance from the Forsaken Loyalists following the decline of the Spades. Highlander strongly supported integrating the pair into the Club, recognizing both their loyalty and long-term potential. This would pay off in particular when he sponsored Alex.

As Highlander's responsibilities within the Club continued to expand, he became increasingly involved in its internal affairs. During this period Vice President Henry Steelman privately expressed growing dissatisfaction with Joe Fraser's leadership, believing the Club had begun to lose its direction. Mistaking Highlander's own frustrations with certain decisions for disloyalty, Henry gradually revealed plans to remove Joe from power by arranging his capture through Dark as Midnight.

Rather than supporting the proposal, Highlander quietly began verifying Henry's claims through trusted contacts both inside and outside the Club, most notably with Vadim. His investigation ultimately confirmed that the conspiracy was genuine, prompting him to report his findings directly to Joe Fraser. The discovery of the coup would prove to be a turning point in Highlander's career, laying the foundation for Henry's eventual execution and Highlander's appointment as Vice President.

Vice Presidency

As Highlander's influence within the Forsaken Loyalists continued to grow, he became increasingly involved in the Club's political affairs. During the conflict surrounding the Overlook, after they had committed an infraction speaking openly about Club business, he balanced diplomacy with intimidation while protecting the Club's interests. Although prepared to use violence whenever necessary, Highlander increasingly relied upon psychological pressure and negotiation to achieve the Club's objectives, demonstrating a more calculated approach than during his earlier years as Enforcer.

One such example came during the kidnapping of Robert, who was taken by the Club as part of the escalating tensions surrounding the Overlook. Rather than immediately executing him, Highlander subjected Robert to a prolonged interrogation before deliberately convincing him that his death was inevitable. After extracting the information he sought, Highlander rendered Robert unconscious and abandoned him with only a written note, allowing the fear of what had happened to carry far more weight than his death would have. The incident became characteristic of Highlander's methods during this period, where intimidation and psychological warfare increasingly replaced unnecessary bloodshed.

This period also saw Highlander become responsible for another significant action: the shooting of Hip. Following the death of Maybe and ongoing developments surrounding the East Side Traders, Highlander observed Hip speaking openly on the radio about Club business, violating one of the Forsaken Loyalists' fundamental rules. Without warning, he shot Hip in the head, nearly killing him during what had at first appeared to be a routine discussion, an act that immediately united several northern groups against the Club and significantly escalated regional tensions.

President of the Forsaken Loyalists

Joe Fraser's eventual capture by Dark as Midnight marked the defining moment of Highlander's life. Highlander instead chose to be present during Joe's final moments, voluntarily surrendering his weapons to witness the execution of the man who had given him a second chance in Chernarus. Joe's death not only deprived the Club of its founder but forced Highlander to confront the responsibility of leading the organization without the man who had shaped much of his life.

Following the execution, Highlander met with Clyde and Harvey of Dark as Midnight in an effort to prevent further unnecessary bloodshed. Acknowledging that Joe's death had resulted from political decisions rather than personal hatred, both sides agreed continued conflict served little purpose. Although Highlander briefly questioned whether he was capable of leading the Club, Joe Fraser's final letter named him as President, a decision unanimously accepted by the remaining members of the Forsaken Loyalists.

As President, Highlander gradually shifted away from the aggressive leadership style that had defined his years as Enforcer. While violence remained an essential tool when diplomacy failed, his priorities increasingly focused on maintaining business relationships, strengthening internal discipline, and preparing younger members for future leadership. Former prospects including Alex Palmer and Vadim became trusted members under his guidance, reflecting Highlander's long-standing investment in developing capable successors rather than relying solely upon himself.

One of Highlander's earliest endeavors as President involved repairing relations with the Blackthorn Gang following tensions and conflict, especially after the death of Boone. Negotiations with Tina and other BTG members ultimately produced an agreement in which Lucas of the Overlook, who had voluntarily approached the Forsaken Loyalists seeking reconciliation, would be handed over in exchange for Blackthorn sparing the life of Hugs. The decision reflected the philosophy he had upheld throughout his career: the welfare of the Club and its members would always take precedence over personal sentiment or any outside perception.

Under Highlander's leadership the Forsaken Loyalists entered a new chapter, placing greater emphasis on long-term stability, diplomacy, and organizational discipline while preserving the traditions established under Joe Fraser. Although still regarded throughout South Zagoria as one of the Club's most intimidating figures, Highlander gradually became known less as the man who started wars and more as the leader responsible for ensuring the Forsaken Loyalists endured beyond them.

Where Are They Now?

Highlander remains the current President of the Forsaken Loyalists, continuing to guide the organization through an increasingly complex political landscape. No longer defined solely by his reputation as the Club's Enforcer, his leadership has focused upon preserving the institution Joe Fraser built while adapting it to changing conditions throughout South Zagoria and its myriad organizations.

With conflicts ongoing within the Northeast, Highlander has directed the Forsaken Loyalists to currently occupy Brixton, the home of their mortal enemy Odyssey, after their unexplained disappearance following the death of Shifty. Although many survivors continue to remember Highlander primarily for the conflict he engaged in and the executions he carried out, his influence now extends beyond mere violence. Much of the modern structure of the Forsaken Loyalists, from its internal discipline and recruitment standards to its emphasis upon long-term business relationships, bears Highlander's influence.

Notable Relationships

Joe Fraser

Joe Fraser was Highlander's sponsor, mentor, and ultimately the individual most responsible for shaping his identity within Chernarus. Every stage of Highlander's career, from prospect to Enforcer, Vice President, and finally President, occurred through Joe's influence. Although the two occasionally disagreed regarding policy and diplomacy, Highlander never questioned Joe's authority or his commitment to the Club. Joe's final act of naming Highlander as his successor permanently linked their legacies.

Alex Palmer

Initially encountered as a member of the Spades Motorcycle Club, Alex Palmer became Highlander's first prospect and one of his successes as a mentor. Highlander subjected Alex to the same demanding standards he expected of himself, believing genuine loyalty could never be taught through simple comfort. Over time their relationship evolved into one built upon mutual respect, symbolized by Highlander entrusting Alex with his signature baseball cap. She also wears a tartan shemagh, another article of the bond between prospect and sponsor.

Vadim

Vadim's relationship with Highlander began cautiously but evolved into one of profound trust. Highlander's rescue of Vadim during the Fireflies incident established an enduring bond between the two men, while their later cooperation during the investigation into Henry Steelman's conspiracy further strengthened that relationship. Vadim ultimately became one of the few members Highlander consistently relied upon for honest counsel, especially later into his Presidency.

Henry Steelman

Henry Steelman represented both one of Highlander's closest companions and greatest internal tragedies. Years of shared service created a friendship that appeared unbreakable, until Henry's open willingness to betray Joe Fraser forced Highlander to choose between personal loyalty and the Club's charter. His execution of Henry remains among the defining moments of his time within the Club.

August

Without August, Malcolm Knox would never have become Highlander. By rescuing him from America, arranging his arrival in Chernarus, and introducing him to the Forsaken Loyalists, August provided the opportunity for Highlander to build an entirely new life. Even after Highlander established himself within the Club, August remained a symbolic connection to the life Malcolm Knox had left behind.

Eamon O'Byrne

Highlander and Eamon O'Byrne shared a friendship long before either arrived in Chernarus, having grown up causing trouble together between Glasgow and Belfast. Following Highlander's appointment as President of the Forsaken Loyalists, Eamon was the first person Highlander called upon to help restructure the organization after Joe's death, taking on the role of Sergeant of Arms. Their longstanding friendship and shared history made Eamon one of the few people Highlander trusted implicitly during the Club's rebuilding efforts.

Tina

Highlander first encountered Tina during the opening stages of the Forsaken Loyalists' war with the Overlook, when she approached him and Benjamin Smits while they were raiding one of the camp’s properties. Although initially distrustful of her claims that she wanted to involve herself in "dirty work," Highlander later established regular contact, developing a productive relationship through the exchange of information and trade. Their relationship was repeatedly tested as regional tensions escalated. Tina paid witness to the execution of Boone and the outbreak of war between the Forsaken Loyalists and the Blackthorn Gang, before later being captured by Highlander and Vadim over suspected ties to both BTG and the Cult.

Refusing to answer their questions, Tina was presented with a choice: take her own life with a single bullet or leave and work with the Club. Choosing the former, she was prevented from doing so when Vadim intervened and knocked her unconscious before releasing her. Despite Tina later joining the Blackthorn Gang, Highlander continued to pursue diplomacy over retaliation, meeting with her in clandestine private meetings to gradually repair relations between their organizations. Those discussions ultimately culminated in the exchange of Lucas for Hugs, ending one of the most volatile periods in relations between the Forsaken Loyalists and the Blackthorn Gang.

Bobs

Highlander was introduced to Bobs through Joe Fraser and Blake Tirty, beginning a profitable relationship built upon trust, trade, and regular discussions surrounding the political landscape of Chernarus. Their relationship was briefly threatened after Highlander unknowingly shot three members of the Black Sheep (including Bobs) during a chance encounter, mistaking them for hostile survivors after they had raised their weapons. Per Joe Fraser’s orders, Highlander personally returned the Black Sheep’s armbands and apologized for the incident, an apology which Bobs reluctantly accepted.

Rather than ending their association, the encounter maintained connections between the groups, with business exchanges continuing over the following years. Bobs later approached Highlander with requests ranging from capturing Clyde to even offering membership within the Black Sheep. Although Highlander declined both offers, citing both his loyalty to the Club and not wishing to bring its conflicts upon the Black Sheep, the two maintained a cordial relationship centered on honesty and respect, before eventually drifting apart.
