Overview

Group/Faction Affiliation: Dark as Midnight

Status: Unknown

Charlie, is a demented young man that walks the line between victim and monster. Scarred by his rough past, Charlie was never able to fully move past his childhood. The trauma gave rise to a manipulative voice in his head, compelling him to commit unspeakable acts. It was only fitting for him to be adopted into Dark as Midnight. Charlie found a twisted sense of belonging and comfort in DAMN, and a new motherly figure who was able to fill the void since his own mother’s death. With his new family and mother, Charlie was able to walk a gruesome path of flesh and blood.

Appearance

For many warboys, removing the red helmet is a rite of passage, marking the transition from warboy to full DAMN member. To Charlie it meant preserving the bond he formed with his newly found family, and as such he continues to wear it. The helmet itself is said to have previously belonged to a deceased DAMN member named Hades, who died long before Charlie had arrived in Gorka. In remembrance of his mother, Charlie clad a black nurse dress with black or red leggings. He also wore a red children’s briefcase on his back, likely a gift from Cat.

Origins

Abused and battered as a young child, Charlie lived with his parents in a secluded stilted house outside of Khelm. His mother worked as a nurse in the Berezino clinic, and his father was a railway worker. During Charlie's childhood, his father's short temperament would often lead to Charlie being beaten and shackled in the house's basement. Charlie’s mother as described by Charlie was the "sweetest woman". She would sing him lullabies, and read him bedtime stories every night. They would play games, sing, dance and laugh together. Charlie clung to his mother, as she was the only one who cared for Charlie.

One fateful day, when Charlie was meant to be in the basement. Charlie’s mother brought him upstairs to cook him his favourite meal, pork. When Charlie's father came home, he became enraged at the prepared meal, and the possibility that Charlie was upstairs when he wasn't supposed to be. This resulted in Charlie's father finally snapping and murdering his mother right in front of Charlie. After witnessing this gruesome act, a dark voice inside Charlie emerged, commanding Charlie to kill his father.

This dark voice stuck around after that day, and it continued to manipulate and deceive the young boy, forcing him to commit heinous and unthinkable acts. The voice enjoys making others suffer, even sometimes Charlie himself. Charlie believed that consuming human flesh would satisfy the voice for a short period of time, but the voice would always reemerge.

This continued into the boys' later years and adult life. For a period of time, Charlie rejected the voice's commands. But the voice only became louder and more obnoxious. The voice became unbearable and drove Charlie deep into the Black Forest. It was there, consumed by the voice inside, that Charlie was discovered by Dark as Midnight.

Demeanor

Charlie was often soft spoken, but the way in which he muttered words made most people uneasy. Due to Charlie’s cannibalistic nature, he was often seen laughing or crying as he spoke, while his body twitched and shook. Members of DAMN often joked that the twitching and shaking made Charlie’s aim better. He was often caught speaking to himself, either talking to the voice in his head, or trying to calm himself down. He enjoyed carrying around his brown teddy bear, a bear seemingly from his childhood. Charlie would often take the bear out once an interaction had settled down and began to play with it.

Actions

Warboyship

After being found on one of Cat’s field trips, Charlie was taken to Gorka to be initiated as a warboy. During Charlie’s first day as a warboy, Iris commanded him to murder one of his fellow warboys who he had just met. So, Charlie snuck up behind the warboy while he was drinking from the Gorka Well, and bashed his head in with a cooking pot. After that moment both Cat and Iris took a liking to Charlie, and Cat began to claim him as “her warboy.”

As Cat and Charlie continued to spend more time together by going on field trips, killing, playing with, dismembering, and eating people. They both began to fill voids in each other's lives, and for Charlie that was the loss of his birth mother. Eventually this resulted in Cat beginning to sing Charlie lullabies or tell him bedtime stories, and giving him an outlet for talking about the voice in his head through journal entries written in red crayon.

During Charlie's time as a warboy, Draven Sanguine, who was the current leader of Dark as Midnight (DAMN), spoke about the DAMNATION, the betrayal, against the Cult of Papa. As a warboy, Charlie mocked the Cult, pretending to speak to PAPA as a joke. However, there were a few times where the voice in Charlie's head faded, and the distant dark voice of PAPA spoke to him. Charlie always suppressed this and continued to fuck shit up as a warboy. He was often seen with other DAMN members at the Black Cross Aid Station (a.k.a. the Raid Station), blowing up walls and murdering patrons.

Monshie’s Funeral

After Cat murdered Monshies, a Black Cross member, the Black Cross held a funeral. Both Cat and Charlie were bored, so they swapped clothes and snuck into the funeral. The pair's attempts to blend in were undermined by uncontrollable fits of laughter, which aggravated Black Cross members and other guests.

As Black Cross Security attempted to remove them, two men dressed in tattered clothes claimed ownership of Cat and Charlie and ordered them to sit on a nearby bench beside them. Sitting as directed, Charlie and Cat realized the men who had taken claim over them were members of the Cult of Papa. The Cult members laid out various blades on the ground and urged Charlie to use the knives on one of them. Charlie grabbed a small kitchen knife for a moment, but Cat shook her head “NO.” Charlie tossed the knife aside and sat back down.

Following this, the cultists began to slash and hack away at each other but were shot dead by Black Cross members. The members became hysteric and pointed their guns at Charlie and Cat, as the two had unknowingly become a part of a cult ritual. They were stripped of their belongings but allowed to leave with their lives. This solidified Charlie's hatred for the Black Cross and led to consistent, uncoordinated but effective attacks on the Aid Station by DAMN.

The Regicide

Over time, Charlie and Iris developed a bond of their own, though it began largely through Cat’s close relationship with her. This connection resulted in Charlie playing a key role in the Regicide broadcast. The group was notorious for infighting and betrayal, with power struggles often ending in premeditated death.

Iris, alongside her trusted inner circle, approached Charlie to ask for his thoughts on their current leader, Draven Sanguine. As was typical for Charlie, he spoke honestly, expressing how Draven would rarely leave Gorka and seemed to have grown soft. While Charlie believed this to be true, he also admitted that he thought Iris would be a better leader. A statement that reflected both his honest opinion and his desire to make Cat happy.

Iris explained the plan of betrayal and the role Charlie was to play in the execution. His task was to subdue Draven with a taser and restrain him. Despite Draven resisting multiple taser cartridges, Charlie was able to bring him to the ground, and the broadcast and execution moved forward.

Judge Richter

Charlie often lingered around The Dugout, toying with patrons, playing with teddies, and stirring up trouble whenever he could. It was there he met Judge Richter, one of the last surviving Firekeepers. The Judge carried himself with a calm authority, which was kind yet firm and principled. To Charlie, that composure was a painful reminder of everything his own father failed to be. The thoughts of his father festered as he observed and spoke with Judge. The Judge wasn't his father, and in Charlie's eyes, he didn't deserve to breathe the same air.

When Charlie joined Judge and a few Dugout members on a fishing trip, the resentment boiled over. He taunted Judge, offering him human flesh. Judge refused. Charlie turned fully manic and bullets began to fly, but Judge slipped into the forest, with nothing more than a gunshot deflecting off his knight helmet.

Their next meeting came inside the Dugout Church. Judge, disgruntled from their last encounter, decided to say some harsh words and flip Charlie off before attempting to leave the church. Charlie's hands twitched quickly as he aimed a Scorpion at the Judge's head. While Charlie manically laughed, he was surrounded by Dugout members, with their weapons raised. Charlie felt the weight of their sights on him, and the voice inside told him to back off.

Charlie painfully continued to laugh, and unfortunately that was their last encounter.

The Cheeseburger Incident

Torchwood had always been underlings or lackeys to Dark as Midnight (DAMN). However, Torchwood started to shift away from their mercenary roots and developed a new ideology.

Before the Cheeseburger Incident, Iris tasked Charlie with preparing a warboy with a message for Torchwood:

“You are the light, we are the dark. You have the light, but there is no light without darkness. We see you. Continue doing what you are doing, and the darkness shall stand by you. Take the wrong step, and the darkness will consume your light.”

With the message prepared, Charlie praised the warboy and handed him a loaded pistol before sending him into Torchwood's base. The warboy screamed the message and shot himself in the head.

Following the delivered message, Damien White set up a meeting with Dark as Midnight (DAMN) to discuss their future goals and direction as a group. Before the meeting, Iris warned everyone in DAMN that if she said the word “CHEESEBURGER,” they were to kill all of Torchwood without second thought.

During the meeting, Damien misspoke and said that one of Torchwood's goals was to become “the most powerful.” Iris did not like this and deliberately built the word “cheeseburger” into a sentence:

“Have you ever heard the beautiful birds in the Black Forest? They sing the song of… Cheeseburger.”

The barn erupted with gunfire from all DAMN members, including Charlie, and all the Torchwood members leaked a disgusting amount of blood. Charlie would later draw a gruesome picture of the incident.

The Burning of Mogilevka Church

Charlie took part in burning and pillaging Torchwood’s church in Mogilevka alongside the rest of Dark as Midnight (DAMN). Whilst they set the church ablaze, an unlikely coordination unfolded further up the hill. The 506th in communication with DAMN, launched their own raid on Kaer Morhen, home of the Rangers Chernarus.
