Friar Joseph was a survivor who, having seen and done many terrible things since the outbreak, turned to faith and study in the Bible as a means of living a new life. He became a character highly respected and loved by many, but had an unfortunate end and is remembered now for his good deeds and strong will. Whether it was finding his packs of food and supplies along the streets in the North, or farming for days to fill packs and tents with food for others, Friar Joseph is remembered as one of South Zagoria’s most friendly survivors. In honor of the Friar, St. Finnigan’s was christened as St. Joseph’s, and is still both maintained and guarded by friendly survivors.

Appearance

Origins

Little is known about the Friar prior to the outbreak. He never told anyone, even his most trusted friends, what he did or who he knew before Day Zero, saying that this end-of-times allowed for people to become “new.”

Actions

Little is known about the Friar prior to the outbreak. He never told anyone, even his most trusted friends, what he did or who he knew before Day Zero, saying that this end-of-times allowed for people to become “new.” Before the Black Mass, Friar Joseph hid himself in the far north away from others out of fear of the rumors going around. During this time he turned to Christ, and having recalled his teachings from his adolescence he began to fill himself with knowledge and trust in his Creator. Over these next few months he began going out into the towns again, and eventually set up a sanctuary for other survivors in a barn north of Chernaya Polana. He called this barn St. Finnigans, and it soon became a popular meeting place and resting spot for survivors to gear up, eat, drink, and talk about their adventures.

Friar Joseph was friendly to all peoples no matter who or what they were. At one point, he even spoke with Maddie Adder, a cannibal with the Well Wishers. It was after this meeting, however, that the Friar began getting worried about the state of the land.

Joseph was said to have healed the sick as well. One man, Mikey Sportivo, was cured of a brain-altering disease simply by blessing him. Another, Barnabas, was on the verge of starvation and collapse when the Friar found him and nursed him back to health. The Friar also met a man named Jack Gallow that wished to be cured of an evil that had seeped inside him, and with the Brotherhood they were able to help Jack (for a short time, at least).

Notable Relationships

Where are they now?

Soon after helping Jack Gallow, Joseph made his way from Devil’s Castle to the Northwest Airfield looking for books to save as part of a mission to preserve some of the Old World’s culture (a project he took up with Chad and Roland of the Polana Trade Union). Once at the base, he met a man who betrayed him and killed him as he tried to make his escape.
