The Dark Carnival is band of strange and psychotic clowns just trying to get by and have a good time in the end of days. They are known for busting knees and having wonderful cookouts. For years, the clowns were plagued with a question of simple yet profound significance, why? They believe to each man, that truth is his own to ponder alone in the darkness of the night, surrounded by the stench of rot and the feeling of cold, but they believe that they have found the answer: The condition of man in his natural state is a condition of war of everyone against everyone. It is this truth that holds man back from what it once was, this truth that allows man to commit savagery amongst those of his own kind while the dead walk, and this truth that acts as the foundation of their principles. They view order and society as the downfall of man and seek to rewrite the world using fear and a bit of laughter.

Alignment

The Dark Carnival tends to have no respect for the rules, other people's lives, or anything but their own desires, which are typically selfish and cruel. Since they set a high value on personal freedom, but do not have much regard for the lives or freedom of other people, their alignment is chaotic evil. They do not work well in groups because they resent being given orders and do not usually behave themselves unless there is no alternative.

Appearance

The Dark Carnival wear pink armbands and are dressed in colorful clothing. They wear various face masks, clown wigs, red noses, red and purple balaclavas, and ski masks.

Origins

The Carnival was founded by a man named "Angus Oblong II" (also known as Bozo The Clown) who came from a prestigious Polish clown family. Originally, each member of the Carnival was a loner of sorts and each member came to the Carnival seeking refugee from society and many never bothered to interact with the outside world even before the apocalypse. After the infection spread, most of humanity changed to adapt to the new surroundings; they were fighting for whatever they could find, essentially the bottom of the food chain, watching people around be killed and slaughtered in the streets. Angus knew the only way to survive was to keep the Carnival together and he had to make them fearless and strong by any means.

The apocalypse showed the clowns that the world and humanity were more cruel then they had thought and people were changed by what the apocalypse made them do to survive. The Clowns, with a newfound embrace, looked upon Europe and in particular South Zagoria as a place to make refuge and to survive the apocalypse. The Carnival understood that the world now operated on power and fear and they believe if you were weak or too afraid to seek power; you would simply gonna die like the rest. They believe there is no more good and evil, there is only power and those too weak to seek it.

Territory

• Green Mountain

The Dark Carnival, due to being a traveling circus, are nomadic in nature and can be found venturing the lands of Chernarus. They currently reside at Green Mountain along with the Outrider Caravan Company. They have lived in northeast Chernarus and traveled west to Green Mountain and the "Ovos", which is in the surrounding territory.

Goals

The Dark Carnival thrives on anarchy and creating chaos, being that they are living out their own desires. To satisfy these desires, they seek out victims to entertain them while they try and destroy any attempts at rebuilding society. They spread fear throughout the area and then will hideaway to relax after their shenanigans.

Values

• CHAOS: The Dark Carnival thrives on anarchy and lawlessness, which leads to them seeking out victims for their mere entertainment to help them survive.
• ANARCHISM: Following established laws and order mean nothing to the Dark Carnival, who pride themselves on doing what they want when they want.
• HUMOR: No matter who it is or at what expense, the Dark Carnival will seek out victims to provide themselves some entertainment and humor to help them survive the days.
• ENTERTAINMENT: Whether it's just themselves or in front of a crowd, the Dark Carnival will entertain by whatever means necessary with not a care for the law or maintaining order.
• INDEPENDENCE: Due to their non-adherence to laws, the clowns will do what they feel like doing and don't care what others may think of them.

History

I. Origins of the Carnival

Angus Oblong II, also known as Bozo the Clown, founded the Carnival. Based on his past experiences traveling Livonia and upon entering Chernarus, he swore to do whatever he needed to do to survive. Bozo then created a traveling circus and tried to meet with the Black Paw in order to try to try and get to the Fire Keepers. Not knowing a lot about politics, the Fire Keepers soon learned about his intentions and left him in a ditch with bullet holes near Novodmitrovsk. After this situation, Bozo developed a burning hatred for anyone that wronged him. While fighting a war with the Fire Keepers for about a year, Bozo managed to develop friends and gained members in his traveling circus. Over some time, the number was growing of those who shared the same views as Bozo.

II. Bozo's Disappearance

As Bozo and the rest of the clowns were settling into Polesovo, Bozo became one of the founding members of the Syndicate, which was formed to counter the Coalition of the North. On one Halloween night, the clowns went trick-or-treating, which would be called the Parade of Corpses, up the Northern Highway. The clowns were looking for tricks and treats at the expense of unsuspecting travelers. During this event, one of the clowns named Puddles was murdered by the 506th. Bozo and the clowns renounced their friends and moved from Polesovo to Green Mountain. The war between the Carnival and 506th lasted some time. The clowns were also dragged into a war between the Syndicate and a group called RISE. Receiving little to no help from their supposed friends in the Syndicate, they had to abandon their home at Green Mountain. Bozo relocated the circus to the North East Airfield near Krasnostav. Some months later, a Dugout employee bombed some of the clowns and this action forced a reconciling between the Carnival and the 506th. Dark as Midnight and RISE had become allies behind the clowns' backs and Bozo was still determined to defeat RISE. Bozo created a coalition called Beacons to help fight the threat, but Dugout, Dark as Midnight, and RISE destroyed the Beacons at the Krasnostav Airfield. Bozo watched this firefight from the distance and decided to flee into the wild until he could muster the will to move back to Green Mountain.

III. New Leadership

With Bozo still in the wild, the Carnival had survived and needed new leadership. Scuz decided to take the role of Ringmaster and was determined to keep the Carnival going in Bozo's absence. After about 18 months trying to rebuild after the massacre at the Krasnostav Airfield, Scuz was assassinated by another clown named Marco. Marco ended up taking over and the Dark Carnival was born. Marco's tenure as the Ringmaster was very short-lived though because after only 3 months, Scuz's top lieutenant, Tedic the Medic, had other plans in mind. Tedic the Medic put Marco into a medically induced coma and took the role of Ringmaster into his own hands.

IV. The Aftermath

After about 6 months, Tedic the Medic had disappeared, much like how Bozo had done. In order to keep the Dark Carnival functioning, Zippy the clown has taken over leadership as the Ringmaster. While Zippy has been the leader, strange events have occurred. The Lady (the clowns' view on the afterlife) has been very fickle with the past leaders. Scuz has now washed ashore with no memory at all of what happened or what happened during the time in-between. Marco has also awaken from his medically induced coma.

The Dark Carnival has a hierarchy for its members. The roles are:

Ringmaster/Ringmistress- Master of ceremonies; the main man/woman of the carnival

Jester/Harlequin- Controls the show when the ringmaster is not around

White Face Clown- Senior members of the circus and support the ringmaster and lead performers

Hobo/Tramp Clown- Generic clowns that just finished clown college

Nobody- Enrolled in the clown college and embody nothing, hence the name

Bozo The Clown- The founder and first Ringmaster of the Carnival. His vision of the traveling circus was to find those that would be strong and fearless, no matter what the cost is to others as long as it means survival. After the attack at the Krasnostav Airfield, Bozo fled into the wild.

Scuz- Scuz took the role of Ringmaster after Bozo fled into the wild. He saw his role as "pusher of the paper", after taking the reins after Bozo's disappearance. Scuz was assassinated after 18 months as leader, but has since been washed ashore with no memory of the past or the time he has lost.

Marco- Marco held the role of Jester in the Dark Carnival, until Scuz was assassinated. Under him, the Dark Carnival was born. After 3 short months, Marco was put into a medically induced coma. He has since awoken from his slumber.

Tedic the Medic- Tedic the Medic was a Jester underneath Scuz and then Marco. He then took over leadership after putting Marco into a medically induced coma. He disappeared much like Bozo into the wilds after 6 months of leadership.

Zippy- Zippy originally was a part of the circus and went to clown college like those before him. He then ran away for awhile and fled the Russian border. He returned to Chernarus some time later and discovered Tedic the Medic's had disappeared. Zippy then took the role as Ringmaster and has been leading the Dark Carnival since.

Relationships

The Dark Carnival has developed some friendships with the following factions:

506th- Since the reconciliation after the Parade of Corpses, the 506th and the Dark Carnival have a long-standing friendly relationship.

Vigil- Vigil and the Dark Carnival have remained on friendly terms for a very long time.

Outrider Caravan Company- The Dark Carnival and the Outrider Caravan Company are on friendly terms as they both share a home at Green Mountain.

Over the course of the Dark Carnival's history, they have had a few enemies:

Dark as Midnight- Behind the Dark Carnival's back, Dark as Midnight and RISE collaborated with each other and destroyed the Beacons at the Krasnostav Airfield.

RISE - When the Dark Carnival was a part of the Syndicate, they were at war with RISE. RISE would then team up with Dark as Midnight behind the Dark Carnival's back and massacre them at the Krasnostav Airfield.

Dugout- Dugout worked with RISE and Dark as Midnight to attack the Dark Carnival at the Krasnostav Airfield.
